Chapbook : A small book or pamphlet containing poems, ballads, stories, or religious tracts. In “There Are No Flowers in a War Zone: Nightmares, Memories, and Flashbacks,” Mac, a philosopher, poet, former Marine Corps Officer, Vietnam veteran, and peace advocate provides the reader insight to the experience of war and life in its aftermath. From the title poem “The Rose,” through Mac’s signature piece “War Crazy” one does not only learn ABOUT war but as much as possible in a non threatening environment, is brought to FEEL the horror, frustration, grief, and aloneness that is intrinsic to the war experience and to living its inevitable consequences.  “There Are No Flowers in a War Zone” is both informative and on point as Mac’s poetry and prose combines the tragic observations and insights of a warrior with the cogent analysis of a philosopher
